MyBuilderBase Editorial Policy
How we create, check, and maintain our calculators and content.
Last updated: September 16, 2026
Our Goal
MyBuilderBase publishes construction calculators and practical information designed to help contractors, builders, DIYers, and homeowners understand common construction calculations and material estimates.
Our goal is to provide useful, understandable information while being transparent about how the content is produced and maintained. This page explains who produces the content, how AI assistance is used, how calculations are checked, how corrections are handled, and what our tools are — and are not — intended to replace.
How We Create Content
Every calculator and guide on MyBuilderBase follows the same general workflow:
- Topic and search-intent research — understanding what a builder or DIYer actually needs to work out.
- Researching relevant calculation methods, terminology, and industry-standard assumptions.
- Drafting and structuring explanations in practical, plain language.
- Building and testing the calculator logic against hand-worked examples.
- Reviewing formulas and unit conversions for correctness.
- Checking worked examples and on-page outputs against the underlying math.
- Reviewing the finished page for clarity and usability.
- Updating content when errors are found or better information becomes available.
Not every page has undergone professional engineering review. Where a calculation depends on assumptions, we try to state those assumptions on the page itself.
AI-Assisted Content
MyBuilderBase uses AI tools as part of its content-development workflow. AI may assist with research, drafting, organization, coding, editing, and identifying potential issues.
AI-generated material is not treated as automatically correct. Content and calculator logic are reviewed and tested before publication, and important assumptions are documented where appropriate.
AI assistance does not mean that every calculation, recommendation, or statement is guaranteed to be correct. Construction projects can involve site-specific conditions, local building codes, engineering requirements, and professional judgment that a general-purpose calculator cannot account for.
Calculator Methodology
Our calculators generally use established mathematical formulas, geometric relationships, unit conversions, material coverage and yield assumptions, user-provided dimensions, and configurable waste allowances where applicable.
Material quantities shown by our calculators are estimates based on the inputs and assumptions displayed on the calculator. Actual quantities can vary because of material type, installation method, site conditions, waste, compaction, product specifications, and other project-specific factors.
Our calculators do not replace professional estimating or engineering services. For load-bearing, structural, or safety-critical work, consult a qualified professional.
Sources and References
Where technical information matters, pages reference appropriate materials such as manufacturer specifications, government publications, recognized construction references, engineering references, and standards organizations. We do not invent sources, and we do not add citations for appearance alone.
Where a calculator uses an industry-standard assumption — a default waste percentage, a material yield, or a unit conversion — that assumption is stated on the page so you can adjust it to match your project.
Editorial Review
Editorial review on MyBuilderBase focuses on whether information is understandable, internally consistent, appropriately qualified, and supported by the calculation methodology or references used for the page.
For calculator pages, review covers two distinct things:
- Content review — clarity, consistency, terminology, instructions, and user experience.
- Calculation review — mathematical formulas, unit conversions, assumptions, rounding, calculation logic, and output consistency.
Editorial review should not be interpreted as professional engineering, architectural, legal, or building-code approval.
Corrections and Updates
Errors can occasionally occur despite careful checking. When they do:
- Users can report suspected errors through our contact page.
- Reports are investigated and confirmed errors are corrected.
- Significant changes may result in an updated "Last updated" date on the page.
- Calculator formulas may be revised when methodology or assumptions change.
Found an error or something that needs clarification? Contact MyBuilderBase and include the page URL and a description of the issue.
Last Updated Dates
Pages display a "Last updated" date when the content or calculation methodology meaningfully changes. The date is not changed automatically when code is deployed or unrelated pages are edited — it reflects a real content or calculation update.
Editorial Independence
MyBuilderBase's editorial content is not paid professional advice. We are not affiliated with any material supplier or manufacturer, and product or method mentions are not paid placements.
If the site ever contains advertising or affiliate relationships, advertising will not determine the mathematical methodology or editorial content of our calculators and guides.
Limitations
MyBuilderBase calculators provide general estimates and educational information. They are not a substitute for project-specific advice from qualified contractors, engineers, architects, surveyors, or other professionals. Local building codes, structural requirements, soil conditions, product specifications, and project conditions may affect the appropriate calculation or construction method.

Report an Issue
If you believe a calculator contains an incorrect formula, unit conversion, assumption, or result, please contact us with the calculator URL and details of the issue. Reports are read and investigated, and confirmed errors are corrected.
