Concrete Coating Guide
Coating a concrete floor is a surface-area problem with a coverage number per gallon and a coat count.
Measure the Floor
Length × width gives the floor area to coat. Include the full footprint you plan to cover.

Two-part epoxies and concrete paints quote a spread rate in square feet per gallon, often per coat. Use the manufacturer's rate — not a generic guess.
Coat Calculation
Total gallons = (area × number of coats) ÷ coverage per gallon per coat- Most floor coatings list 2-3 coats.
- Rough or porous concrete absorbs much more — add a coat or a primer.
- Always buy a little extra to finish edges and patch.
Prep Is Part of the Cost
Surface preparation (grinding, etching, patching) is often a separate material line. Estimate acid etch or primer quantities alongside the coating itself.
