Coop Planning Tips

Aim for at least 4 sq ft of indoor floor per standard hen — more in cold climates.
Give each hen 10 sq ft of run space; a run also helps when indoor space is tight.
Plan one nest box per 2–3 hens and 10 in of roost per bird.
Ventilate at the ridge and eaves, but keep drafts off the roosting birds.
Predator-proof with hardware cloth, including a buried apron around the run.
